I’m launching this space to help developers who recently started their career.
Why now?
Let’s start with the second question! The best time to start would have been years ago. The second-best time? Today!
Why me?
My name is Sandor, and I’m currently a senior engineer at Spotify, working with C++. Before that, I spent nearly a decade in the travel industry, after transitioning from database administration to software development. Over time, I worked my way up from junior to senior to principal engineer.
For years, mentoring has been an official part of my job. I’ve run 1:1 sessions for engineers looking to level up and facilitated coding dojos where teams grow together through hands-on learning. I loved it, and the feedback confirmed that it made an impact.
At Spotify, I still run dojos, but since I primarily work with experienced engineers, I don’t get to mentor juniors as much—and I miss it.
That, combined with my passion for writing (I’ve been publishing weekly posts about C++ on sandordargo.com for the past eight years), makes The Dev Ladder the perfect next step.
What to expect
Every week, I’ll publish a post to help you grow as an engineer. While coding is a crucial part of our job, it isn’t just about writing better code. As you advance, other skills become just as important—if not more so.
We’ll explore topics like:
✅ Career development
✅ System design
✅ Communication skills
✅ Coding best practices
✅ And much more
Most posts will be for subscribers, though I’ll share some public ones too.
Since I love coding dojos, I’ll also include walkthroughs of coding exercises. These won’t be language-agnostic—I’ll likely use Python because it’s readable and widely used (even if it’s not my main language).
I’m excited to build this space with you. Welcome to The Dev Ladder! 🚀
